George Soros Brings Progress Back to Politics

The Ferguson Protests were an encapsulating moment in time for the history of the United States. They can truly be considered a sparking point in the global fight for equality and the local fight for social justice throughout America. And, to be honest, it could not have happened without the gentle guiding hand of a billionaire investor by the name of George Soros. Now, if George Soros rings a bell then you might have already had some familiarity with him. For those not in the know, let’s dive in.

George Soros is one of the most impressive and successful investors that the United States has ever seen. Going from a Jewish child living in Nazi-occupied Hungary in his youth to eventually landing in America with the foresight to start his own company, well, Soros’ story is as impressive as it is dramatic. George Soros became a sensation in the investment world thanks to his work with the Soros Fund. He parlayed that success into a worldwide battle for social justice and progressive ideals, starting at home and shifting his focus abroad. Eventually this would lead George Soros to found the Open Society Foundations. The Open Society Foundations helps to bring progressive ideals to every nook and cranny of the world by providing education, democracy, and social equality. Read this story at Politico about George Soros.

The Open Society Foundation is working just as well at home in the United States as it is abroad. In fact, this philanthropic tilt toward social values is what brings us to the Ferguson Protests. Soros donated nearly $33 million to local grass-roots, on the ground political activists living in cities all in and around Ferguson. This funding allowed the Ferguson Protests to go on long even when many members of the mainstream media were trying to shut them down. Without Soros help funding the protests we never would have seen just how ugly the inequality can be between races in America.

Of course, Ferguson isn’t the only place that Soros has made a huge impact. He’s been in the political machine for decades, always pushing to get more progress to politically expedient places. Soros rose to political fame when he backed Al Gore in 2004 but he never went away after Gore’s loss. Soros did however take a sabbatical as he realized it wasn’t right to spend too much money in politics. Money shouldn’t equal speech and that is something that George Soros deeply understands and respects.

However, things changed in 2016 when Donald Trump ran for President of the United States. Realizing just how disastrous a Trump presidency could be, Soros jumped back into the political fray by backing Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Soros would go on to donate nearly $25 million throughout the 2016 election cycle to progressive causes all throughout the country, including to Super PACs associated with the Clinton campaign. These donations would set up the Democratic Party to really push for important issues even leading up to the 2018 elections that will fundamentally shape the way the United States operate. Charles Koch And The Former New York City Mayor Thoughts On Universities

Charles Koch is a man of diverse talents and expertise. Koch is a holder of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, from the Massachusetts Technology Institute. In his early life, Charles Koch worked at Arthur Little Limited, where he displayed lots of expertise and skills. He later joined the Koch Industries, which was owned and headed by his father, Fred Koch. In Fred Koch’s era, Koch industries mostly dealt with chemical products and fertilizer production on a larger scale.

Charles Koch is also a successful author, who has published two books. He has successfully been offering advice and consultation services to business owners concerning the success of their enterprises. Charles Koch serves as the principal of Koch Industries, the second-best selling private company in the United States. As a libertarian, he also involves himself in politics for a just and democratic society.

In collaboration with the former NYC mayor, Koch made a release urging universities and colleges to give their students freedom to venture in diverse courses. His books, The Good Profit and The Science of Success, have primarily contributed to shaping the global economy. In his entire career, Koch has been dreaming of diverse market educational organizations, a scenario that has led him to support some of the educational institutions in the states.

Michael Bloomberg has also been one of the public figures that have largely contributed to a just society. In his era as the mayor of NYC, he supported the establishments of educational institutes to accommodate students willing to understand the concept of business proceedings. This year, Charles Koch depicted the need for students being equipped with quality education system and advice for their total well-being.

Recent graduations hosted by universities has not been inviting liberal minded speakers to offer their talks to the graduates, a scenario that Koch terms as the significant barrier to the future success and growth of the graduating students. Active learning systems and open inquiries have also not been rendered to students in an efficient manner. Charles has lots of expertise in some fields such as engineering sector, investment industry, and political onset.

Charles Koch concluded by stating that students will achieve their best when instilled with open minds and re-affirmed of their beliefs.

Bill Moyers Article Corrects Myths About the Koch Brothers

An article just published on the Bill Moyers website sets out to correct five popularly believed myths about the Koch Brothers.

The Koch Brothers are Charles and David. Charles is the older of the two, and the spokesperson. Charles Koch is also the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Koch Industries, which was started by their father, Fred Koch. David Koch is Executive Vice President. They each own 42 percent of the company, which is the second largest privately held company in the United States.

As the article on Bill Moyers outlines, until 2010, the Kochs were largely unknown to most Americans, even to the Washington DC elite. However, in that year The New Yorker began publishing a series of exposes by Jane Mayer, which eventually led to her book “Dark Money” about the pair. Now they are fairly visible and well-known. The news media publish interviews with Charles. Recently he got a lot of publicity by writing an op-ed piece in which he said he agreed with socialist Bernie Sanders about the problem of inequality in the United States.

According to the article the first myth is that the political activities of Charles Koch are a reaction to the presidency of Barack Obama.

Not getting much traction with the Libertarian Party, they went on to fund groups such as Citizens for a Sound Economy and the 60 Plus Association to lobby for causes they believe in.

In 2003 they began holding twice-yearly meetings of wealthy donors who support conservative causes. They founded their largest effort, Americans for Prosperity (AFP), in 2004.

All of this political activity took place long before President Obama took office.

The second myth the article debunks is that AFP is a pet project of the Koch Brothers. The article stresses the organization represents the beliefs and interests of many wealthy political donors. 17 people attended the first Koch get-together. As of early 2016, attendance reached 500. The minimum donation level to qualify for entry to this group is $100,000. That means a minimum of $50,000,000. However, many donors give more. One hotel staffer overheard a donor pledge $5 million to support conservative causes. The group raised just $100,000 in 2008. By 2014, it was $300,000. Journalists obtained these figures from tax records and Koch’s organizations. The article claims the group plans to raise from $700-900,000 for the 2016 elections.
